This from a wide ranging interview with the Daily Beast:
One of the biggest changes at Fox is Ailes’s decision to drop Sarah Palin as a high-profile contributor after offering her a new contract worth a fraction of the $1 million a year she had been making. But he would not confirm Chafets’s account that Ailes believes Palin has lost her appeal.
“I like Sarah Palin,” Ailes says. “I think she got pounded harder by the media. The only people who got it worse were Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, and that was over a longer period of time.
“Sarah would say she probably was responsible for some of the bad press she got and made some mistakes along the way.”
So why did he cut her loose?
“Nothing’s forever. We purposely took a general cooling-off after the election. Everyone was exhausted from it.”
So essentially Ailes is admitting that he "cut her loose," which is certainly NOT the way that Palin herself has described the reason for the end of her relationship with Fox News;
“I encourage others to step out in faith, jump out of the comfort zone, and broaden our reach as believers in American exceptionalism,” Palin said. “That means broadening our audience. I’m taking my own advice here as I free up opportunities to share more broadly the message of the beauty of freedom and the imperative of defending our republic and restoring this most exceptional nation. We can't just preach to the choir; the message of liberty and true hope must be understood by a larger audience.”
Yeah I'm pretty sure NOBODY bought that.
He also mentions that Palin made many mistakes and attracted a lot of bad press, but ultimately I think the reason is as simple as the paint chip eaters that watch Fox News. She simply could no longer meet the initial criteria under which Ailes hired her in the first place:
“I hired Sarah Palin because she was hot and got ratings.”
And since Palin's looks have faded even faster than Fox News ratings, she was simply no longer an attractive, or helpful addition to he Fox News stable.
By the way does it seem to anybody else that EVERY TIME somebody talks about Palin, or she talks about herself, that there is this weird, creepy sexuality to it? I mean "she got pounded harder by the media?" Not only is that untrue, but it is also phrased in a really strange manner.
If anybody "got pounded" during Sarah Palin's time at Fox News it was the audience, with truckloads of stupidity.
Roger Ailes admits that Sarah Palin was fired.
